10th June 2009 - Denizli, Turkey - Final Update

At the end of a Paragliding World Cup event, everyone tends to disperse very quickly and Turkey was no exception. Competitors and staff have flights to catch, very often straight to another competition. This, unfortunately, meant that a couple of pictures got missed out in the prizegiving report - we would like to correct that right now.

Winning team for the Denizli, Turkey Paragliding World Cup was Spaelti (Stephan Morgenthaler, Joel Debons and Peter Neuenschwander) - in second place was Cornizzolo Eventi and third was team Gin - here's the podium picture.

Also, in all the excitement, we missed the winning team from Task 4. The task was won by Abac/Niviuk : JM Caron, Elisa Houdry and Erwan Didriche.

6th June 2009 - Denizli, Turkey - Day 7 - Task Cancelled Due To Wind

It seems that the weather is not going to play fair at the end of the event. All of the pilots are up at take off but, finally, the day has been cancelled because the wind is getting too strong.

This means that the overall results from the last task are now the final results for this competition.

Therefore, the overall winners for the Turkish Paragliding World Cup - Denizli are...

Overall Open Champion - Russell Ogden (United Kingdom) - Ozone - 2890 points.

Overall Women's Champion - Elisa Houdry (France)            - ABAC  - 2401 points.

Winning Team - Spälti

Winning Nation is Italy

There will be photos and a report from the prize giving this evening.

5th June 2009 - Denizli, Turkey - Day 6 - Task 4 - 74.3km Race to Goal won by Marco Littame

The race is over and the results have been fast.

We all thought it had gone to Urban BUT....winning the open event today is Marco Littame (Italy) with a time of 2 hours 32 minutes 45 seconds (the departure points did it this time).

Close behind him, today's winning woman is Regula Strasser (Switzerland) with a time of 2 hours 48 minutes 44 seconds who was followed in just 3 seconds later by Keiko Hiraki (Japan).

And our winning team for the day is Abac/Niviuk..

These are some of the winning pilots - Gasper Prevc, Urban Valic, Meet Director Semih Sayir, Yurdaer Etike and Russell Ogden

Winners Task 3

5th June 2009 - Denizli, Turkey - Day 6 - Task 6 - Provisional winner is Urban Valic [17:25]

He appears over the goal field 50m ahead of any other gliders and it seems, subject to download confirmation, that Urban is the winner of today's task. Elisa Houdry, again subject to confirmation, has taken the place of 'first woman'.

So far we have around 80 pilots in goal and the number is increasing.

Official results and the times will follow later.

5th June 2009 - Denizli, Turkey - Day 6 - Task 4 - 74.3km Race to Goal [14:15]

We got the news a little late today - the task has been running for an hour.

Todays task is a 74.3 km Race to Goal to the NorthWest and West of Pamukkale - the map is below, start time was 13:10 local time and the window close is at 15:40.

We have a new feature for you to try out - the task is now mapped out on www.fastretrieve.com/mapping and you will be able to track the status of the pilots as they land (click on a parachute icon for the pilot number) - click on the goal to see how many are there at any time. Turnpoint numbers will be added on later tasks but see how you like it at the moment.

This is a beta at the moment so please don't be surprised is things are not completely as you would expect - feedback is appreciated to feedback@fastretrieve.com

The actual task map is below.

5th June 2009 - Day 6 - Morning [11:00]

The last couple of days have been windy and unflyable but, this morning, it seems to be improving. There was a dely this morning while the conditions were being considered and the pilots have all now left for take off - but a different take off to normal.

As soon as we have details of a task they will be available here.

4th June 2009 - Day 5 - Task Cancelled due to worsening weather.

We gave it our best shot but the weather isn't playing fair.

We all went up to the lower take off this morning in the hope of setting a shorter task just to make something of the day. A 63km task was set but was then cancelled at 13:30 - rain is appearing all over the valley and the outlook for the rest of the afternoon is not good.

Tomorrow's forecast is more promising so we will wait.

4th June 2009 - Denizli, Turkey - Day 5 - Morning [09:15]

After yesterday's winds, the forecast last night was predicting rain and possible wind for today. However, this morning the clouds are few and slow moving and the meet director is fairly confident of a task today.

Pilots are preparing to leave for takeoff and the task details will be here as soon as it has been decided.

We have a new system which will allow you to watch the status of the retrieve and see where the pilots get to. As soon as the task is active there will be a link on this page.

Also, the animation of Task 3 is now uploaded and available - check the links above.
